A donation of $1,500 is requested for each pew which includes engraving on the 2"x 4" plaque which will be centered on the backside of the backrest. It is our hope that we can raise the necessary funds by early spring so that we can have the new pews ready for use for our May opening.

This is a unique and limited giving opportunity for the faithful who support the Shrine. Please respond soon to take part in this initiative. You may call the Shrine office at 802-928-3362 or make a donation online:

Strengthening Our Worship

WE'RE IN NEED OF A FEW NEW PEWS

The pews in the Chapel pavilion at St. Anne’s Shrine were collected over many decades through donations from various churches in the area. Designed for indoor use, these pews require an extraordinary amount of maintenance and repair each spring. The harsh winters and rainy summers damage the pews in many ways. There is peeling paint, cracking, splintering and waterlogged damage each and every year creating in some cases a dangerous situation for those attending Mass.

The heart of St. Anne’s Shrine is the celebration of the Eucharist for it is the source and summit of our Christian lives. The Strengthening Our Worship initiative recognizes the importance of our gathering to celebrate the Eucharist and is an investment in the liturgical prayer life of the Shrine. We have begun an urgent and rapid fundraising drive to replace the decaying pews in the Chapel pavilion so that our pilgrims can worship in a space free of deteriorating seating.

The pew replacement project calls for the purchase of 110 pews with folding kneelers in six foot and eight foot sizes. The Chapel layout for the placement of these new pews will actually provide us with a center aisle in line with the Tabernacle in the sanctuary. This alone will enhance our worship and provide a better flow for receiving Holy Communion with a center aisle and two side aisles. The pews will be custom made using a recycled plastic material which is durable and created for outdoor use. We acquired lawn furniture constructed with this material in our Adirondack chairs and end tables for the cabin project and these items have endured the past four winters remarkably well.
