Summer at the
Shrine 2009
Long time and beloved Spiritual Director, Father Maurice Boucher, S.S.E.
died on Sunday August 23, 2009 after struggling with cardiac
complications. Father Boucher spent most of his years as an Edmundite priest serving the many pilgrims who visited Saint Anne’s
Shrine from all over the U.S. and Canada.
Over thirty members of the Edmundite Community and Diocesan priests
gathered with our Superior General, the Very Reverend Michael Cronogue,
S.S.E. and the Most Reverend Salvatore Matano, Bishop of Burlington, to
celebrate the funeral Mass for Father Boucher on Saturday, August 29,
2009. Over six hundred people traveled from as far away as Texas and
Toronto to be present as we celebrated the life of a man who gave of
himself to others as our Lord and Savior did. The choir from St. Amadeus
Parish in Alburg, VT led the congregation in many of Father Boucher’s
favorite hymns, stirring the memories of decades of ministry by a simple
man who helped create a “center of life, light and love.”
